First dose of corona virus is 82% effective in preventing death, second dose 95% effective: study

New Delhi: The vaccine has proved to be very effective in preventing death due to corona virus infection. This has been revealed in a report released by the Indian Council of Medical Research and National Institute of Epidemiology (ICMR-NIE). The report shows that the first dose of the vaccine is up to 82 percent effective in preventing death. And if a person is given both doses, it increases to 95 percent.

The research was done in Tamil Nadu to analyze the impact of vaccination. The Tamil Nadu Police Department is gathering information about vaccination of its ‘soldiers’ and deaths during the second wave (besides hospitalisation).

According to a report in the Indian Express, ICMR-NIE Director Dr Manoj Murhekar said that this data was used to estimate the deaths due to coronavirus among policemen who were not vaccinated.

Between February 1 and May 14, 32,792 personnel took the first dose, while the number of those who took both doses was 67,673. 17,059 policemen were not vaccinated.

The report shows that between 13 April and 14 May 2021, 31 personnel died due to corona virus. The Tamil Nadu Police Department employs over 1,17,000 policemen.
