A horrific accident took place in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday evening. A fire broke out in a Durga pandal here, killing 3 people. These include two children and a woman. At the same time, 52 people got burnt. The condition of 43 is critical. They have been referred to BHU in Varanasi. The accident took place at Narthua in Aurai area. It is being told that about 150 people were present in the pandal at the time of the accident.
According to the police, the fire started when Aarti was being held. This caused an uproar. People started running here and there to save their lives. Due to the large crowd, people got caught in the fire before they could come out. Neighbors somehow pulled out the people. An eyewitness woman Buddhi said that the fire started due to a short-circuit. After this it spread throughout the pandal.
The staging of Shankar-Kali Maa was going on, then the fire broke out.
After the fire broke out in the pandal, the local people first reached for help.
Fire brigade car was not parked despite worship permission
At the time of the incident, there were mostly women and children in the pandal.
The permission for Durga Puja was taken. However, the fire brigade of the fire department was not standing around the premises. Hence, water cannon could not be poured on the pandal for the first 20 minutes of the rescue. Then firefighters arrived. The fire was brought under control after 2 hours of effort. During this, the injured were taken to the hospital by ambulance.
There was chaos after the fire. People started running here and there to save their lives.
It is being told that inside there was a pandal like a cave of Mother. On one side there was an idol of Mother. Witness Vinay says, the leela of Shankar and Kali Maa was being staged. It was time for Aarti. That’s why 150 to 200 people were present in the pandal. Suddenly a fire breaks out. Seeing the fire, we reached running. Pulled the curtain and tore it so that people could run outside.
This scene is done after the fire is extinguished. The pandal was completely burnt.
Another woman said, ‘The fire spread very fast in the pandal. The flames were going up. People themselves came to the rescue. Started pouring water. Somehow people were saved.
SIT formed for investigation, will give report in 4 days
After the accident, DM and officers have reached the spot.
Varanasi ADG Ram Kumar constituted a 4-member SIT to probe the incident. The team consists of Bhadohi Additional District Magistrate (Finance and Revenue), Additional Superintendent of Police, XEN Highil and Fire Safety Officer. This investigation team will give its report in 4 days. DM Gaurang Rathi said that due to short circuit, there is a possibility of fire.
