Extend the Shelf Life of Fresh Herbs With Culinary Trick By Chef Vikas Khanna

Whether you use them to decorate your chickpea salad or add some crispy mint leaves to your mojito muddle, herbs can bring a burst of freshness to any dish. Many people find it difficult to keep the herbs fresh. The leaves will droop if you keep them out in the open, but storing them in the refrigerator is also not particularly beneficial. However, there is always a solution as chef Vikas Khanna has provided some much-needed advice on how to keep the herbs fresh in the refrigerator for up to 8-10 days. The chef took to his Instagram handle and shared a video in which he demonstrates in detail how to prolong the life of the herbs.

In the video, Vikas Khanna suggested submerging the coriander herb’s stem in a glass of water. The leaves should also be properly wrapped in a plastic bag before being placed in the refrigerator, he added.

Captioning the video, he wrote, “These 27 seconds might save you a lot of flavours, freshness and a little. This is the best trick to keep herbs fresh in the refrigerator for up to 8-10 days.” To maintain the herbs’ freshness, “Change the water every 48 hours,” he recommended. The chef concluded, “Thank me later.” For the hashtag, he wrote, “Culinary trick.”

A user took to the comment section and asked, “What if we need to use it every day?” Another wrote, “Nice hack. I store coriander/mint in pyrex or glass box with gasket… stays fresh for 2 weeks… worth a try.” Chef Oindrila Bala said, “This is exactly how I store my herbs too.”
