Doctor G Box Office Collection: Ayushmann Khurrana Starrer Earns Rs 15 Crore In Opening Weekend

New Delhi: Ayushmann Khurrana and Rakul Preet Singh starrer campus comedy-drama ‘Doctor G’ has collected Rs 15 crore in its opening weekend at the box office.

Makers of the film Junglee Pictures shared the latest box office collection of the film on Twitter.

“Thank you for loving our #DoctorG wholeheartedly. Crossed a total of 15.03 cr in the first weekend! Keep loving and watching #DoctorGInCinemas,” the banner said in the tweet.

Co-written by Sumit Saxena, Vishal Wagh, Saurabh Bharat, and Kashyap, ‘Doctor G’ follows the story of a budding doctor named Uday Gupta who ends up enrolling himself in gynaecology for post-graduation due to lack of seat in his desirable subject, orthopaedics.

The film marks the directorial debut of Anubhuti Kashyap, known for helming Prime Video series ‘Afsos’.

“Doctor G is a coming-of-age comedy-drama set in a medical campus and is a compelling and hilarious look at a male gynaecologist surviving an otherwise female-dominated world. Ayushmann Khurrana has done an amazing job essaying the role of Doctor Uday Gupta. He along with Shefali Shah and Rakul Preet Singh has brought so much to their individual roles that can make one relate to these characters and situations. The film addresses gender stereotypes in his personal and professional life enveloped in comedy and is something that will appeal to young-India,” Anubhuti had said in a statement.

Anubhuti, who boarded the Junglee Pictures project around 2017, said she loved the “unique” premise of the story penned by Saurabh Bharat but wanted to tweak the script.

“I liked the script but there was so much more about it that I didn’t like and I wanted to change it. The banner was in sync with my ideas. I worked with the original writer, we brainstormed a lot. We arrived at some other version of the story. We added more characters, made the story more personal and brought in the aspect of the ‘male touch’,” she told PTI.

‘Doctor G’ is co-written by Sumit Saxena, Vishal Wagh, Saurabh Bharat, and Anubhuti.

Produced by Vineet Jain and co-produced by Amrita Pandey, the film also stars Shefali Shah, and Sheeba Chaddha.
