Dead Fishes Found Floating In Pattom Canal | Thiruvananthapuram News – Times of India

Thiruvananthapuram: Dead fishes were found floating on the surface of Pattom canal on Thursday morning.
The local residents who spotted the dead fishes near the Murinjapalam bridge informed the city corporation’s health wing.
Health inspector SS Minu and team inspected the site soon and the environmental engineer of the pollution control board, marine wing of Vizhinjamcollected samples from the canal.
The officials said that the samples will be analysed in detail and cause of contamination can be ascertained only after analysis of results. Pattom canal has long been a dump yard of all kinds of waste.
Sewage gets pumped into the canal along with other kinds of waste. The irrigation department is implementing a project to revive the canal as part of a flood mitigation scheme.
