Covovax: Government panel recommends approval of vaccines for 8-11 year olds

An expert team from the country’s Central Drug Authority on Friday recommended that Kovavax be given to children aged 6-11 at the Serum Institute. Recommendations for this approval are being sent to the Drugs Controller of India. Only then will it receive final approval.

Prakash Kumar Singh, director of the Seram Institute of India, had on March 18 applied for an emergency clearance for the vaccine.

According to sources, the Subject Expert Committee of Kovid 19 has recommended Kovavax for emergency use clearance. It can be given to 8-11 year olds.

Last April, a team of experts sought more information from the Serum Institute. Meanwhile, the Drugs Controller General of India had on December 26 approved the use of adults in emergency situations. Then It also approved the application on March 9 for 12-16 year olds on certain conditions.

The vaccination of 12-14 year olds started from March 16. From March 1 last year, people over the age of 60 were told to give precision doses. Residents over the age of 45 who have co-morbidity have also been told to give this booster dose.
