Covid Cases Comparatively High In Urban Pockets Of East S’bhum | Ranchi News – Times of India

Jamshedpur: The number of new Covid-19 cases in the Steel City is steadily rising in the past 20 days as people lowered their guards, health experts here said. Between February 10 and March 3, the district reported 477 cases and a large chunk of them were from the urban circle.
The experts, however, said the number of daily cases suggested that the infection rate is steadily on the decline after February 16. Between February 10 and 16, the daily cases were 99, 90, 64, 56, 66, 52 and 39 respectively. During the same period, over 860 people have recovered and currently, only 56 cases are active.
Of the total cases reported in the last 20 days, urban areas, including Kadma, SonarMango, Jugsalai, Birsanagar, Golmuri, Sakchi and Sidhgora reported the chuck of it regularly.
Additional chief medical officer of the district, Dr Sahir Pall, said, “The number of Covid cases has come down, but new cases are being reported daily. People should not lower their safeguards.”
ADM (law and order) N K Lal had recently said the Sakchi area that houses the busy Sakchi market, popular parks and hangouts, including the Jubilee Park in the periphery, witnessed large crowds daily.
The district’s nodal surveillance officer, N K Lal, said, “People should follow the Covid appropriate behaviour in public places even though the number has reduced but the disease is still here.”
Senior physician Dr. Mrityunjay Kumar said the total number of cases in the last 20 days should be enough to make the people take care.
Kumar, who was the former IMA Jamshedpur chapter secretary, added, “Any negligence like not wearing masks and maintaining social distancing in public places would cause problems.”
Meanwhile, officials of the district vaccination cell, said teams are visiting door-to-door and to schools to vaccinate the eligible beneficiaries.
Besides, vaccination centres are functional. The officials aim to vaccinate the entire eligible population at the earliest to mitigate the risks. On Friday, eight centres for the adult population and three centres for the 15-18 age group inoculated the beneficiaries in the urban circle, while 10 centres for adults and six centres for the teenagers were operational in rural areas.
Till Thursday, the district has reported 69,748 cases, 68,560 recoveries and 1,132 deaths.
