The election process going on for the last 47 days in all the three states of the North East will end today. The counting for the assembly elections in the three states will begin at 8 am. The Election Commission had announced the election schedule for the three states on January 18. Voting took place in Tripura on 16 February, while in Meghalaya and Nagaland on 27 February.

The term of the Nagaland Assembly will end on March 12. At the same time, the tenure of the Legislative Assembly in Meghalaya is ending on March 15 and in Tripura on March 22. Here, in the exit polls that came after the voting, the BJP alliance in Tripura-Nagaland has been predicted a majority. No one is expected to get a clear majority in Meghalaya. That is, there are chances of a hung assembly.

First let’s know the condition of the three states…

1. 86.10% polling in Tripura, 4% less than 2018
Around 86.10% voter turnout was recorded in Tripura assembly elections on 16 February. Earlier in 2018, there was 90% polling in Tripura and BJP formed the government. This time the voting figure is 4% less. This time a total of 3,337 polling booths were set up in the state. 28.13 lakh voters decided the fate of 259 candidates in the elections.

Earlier, in 2018, elections were held on 59 seats. BJP emerged as the single largest party by winning 35 seats. With this, the BJP had demolished the 25-year stronghold of the Left. The party made Biplab Dev the CM, but in May 2022, Manik Saha was made the Chief Minister.

2. 85.27% voting in Meghalaya
Meghalaya recorded 85.27% voting on February 27. Voting was held on 59 out of 60 seats here. UDP candidate from Sohyeong seat H.D.R. The election here was postponed after Lyngdoh’s death. There are a total of 30 lakh voters in the state. There are 375 candidates in the fray, including 339 men, 36 women. For these, 3,419 polling stations were set up in 12 districts. Here NPP fielded candidates for 57, Congress and BJP for 60-60 and TMC for 56 seats.

Elections were held on 59 seats in Meghalaya in 2018. The Congress had won the maximum 21 seats. BJP could get only 2 seats here. The National People’s Party (NPEP) got 19 seats. It formed the government together with PDF and HSPDP. He formed the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA).

3. 85.90% voting in Nagaland
The voter turnout for 59 out of 60 assembly seats in 16 districts of Nagaland on February 27 was 85.90%. Here on February 10, Congress candidate Khekashe Sumi withdrew his nomination from Akuluto assembly constituency, following which BJP candidate Kajeto Kinimi was elected unopposed. There are a total of 13 lakh voters in the state. At the same time, 183 candidates are in the fray, including 4 women and 19 independent candidates. 2,315 polling stations were set up for them.

Nagaland is currently ruled by the National Democratic Progressive Party. Neiphiu Rio is the CM. NDPP came into existence in 2017. The NDPP then won 18 seats and the BJP 12. The two parties had forged an alliance before the elections. The government consists of NDPP, BJP NPP and JDU.
