New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry has sent a team of officials of the Anti-Terrorism Investigation Agency (NIA) to Rajasthan’s Udaipur after two Muslim men beheaded a Hindu man in Udaipur’s Maldas street area in broad daylight and posted a video on social media saying they did it to avenge the “insult to Islam” on Tuesday. Curfew has been imposed in seven police station areas of Udaipur till further orders after communal tension over the incident.
The central government is treating the killing of tailor Kanhaiya Lal terror attack and dispatched a probe team that included officials of the anti-terror agency NIA, said officials.
The authorities said the probe group would thoroughly probe the case and carry out a background check of the two accused arrested.
“Prima-facie it seems to be a terror case and needs a thorough investigation which includes browsing through their social media profiles,” a senior official said on condition of anonymity.
Both the men, who allegedly carried out the broad day murder, took responsibility for the crime by posting an online video and the police have taken them into custody.
According to the police, the accused were caught in the Bhim area of Rajsamand district. The Superintendent of Police Sudhir Chaudhary said that both the accused were trying to escape on a motorcycle wearing helmets, but they were caught during the blockade in the Bhim area. He said, “We have confirmed the identity of the accused. 10 teams were deployed in search of the accused.
Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Hawa Singh Ghumaria said, “A state-level alert has been issued and range IGs (inspector generals) and SPs have been asked to increase patrolling and force mobility as a precautionary measure.”
Meanwhile, two Additional Director Generals of Police, a Deputy Inspector General of Police, a Superintendent of Police, 30 officers of Rajasthan Police Service and five RAC companies have been sent to Udaipur to monitor the situation during this period.
