A 42-year-old man died after his car fell on an under-construction flyover in North Delhi’s Barapullah-Noida Link Road area. The accident happened on Friday. The name of the deceased is Jagandeep Singh, who was a resident of Krishna Nagar, Delhi. He was returning from office.

Jagandeep died on the spot after falling below 30 feet. Police have expressed apprehension that he was intoxicated, so he got confused about the route and went on the under-construction flyover.

Passengers informed the police about the accident
After the accident, at around 8.20 pm on Friday night, a passerby Furkan informed the police about the incident. Thereafter, a police team reached the spot and tried to pull out Jagandeep from the mangled car, but could not.

Police said that later the fire brigade was called. After about two hours, he was taken out of the car and taken to a nearby hospital, but the doctors declared Jagandeep brought dead. After the post-mortem, his body was handed over to the family.

Deputy Commissioner of Police North Amrita Gugulot said- We do not know how the vehicle reached so far despite difficulties on the way. It seems that he had consumed alcohol, though we are waiting for the post-mortem report to confirm it.

Allegations of local people – no barricading proper at entry
Locals allege that there is only partial barricading where the incomplete flyover begins. According to passers-by, there is a heavy jersey barrier at the entry, but it is not completely closed, leaving some space for some vehicles to pass.

PWD officials said – iron rods every 40 meters, even walking is difficult
However, Public Works Department (PWD) officials objected to this. He said that the meaning of heavy jersey barrier is that this route is not to be used. However, we need to make room for machinery and trucks.

The officer said that even if someone enters by mistake, there is neither light nor traffic. Iron rods have come out after every 40 meters. Due to which it is difficult to walk here.

After Friday’s accident, the PWD has installed concrete jersey barriers at the flyover’s entry. Also told the officials present there that these barriers should be removed only when vehicles carrying construction material have to go.
