Black Kite Ensnared In Chinese ‘manja’, Rescued | Agra News – Times of India

They had to call for a sky lift to reach the bird.

AGRA: A juvenile Black Kite, which was caught in a deadly glass-coated Chinese ‘manja’ (kite string) and found hanging from a tree in Chhipitola, Agra, on Wednesday, was rescued by the Wildlife SOS Rapid Response Unit (RRU). It is currently being kept under observation and care and is likely to be released in the next 10-16 days.
A two-member team of RRU said the Chinese ‘manja’, which is banned, was entwined around its wings and legs as it hung from the top-most branches of a tree in Chhipitola Tola. They had to call for a sky lift to reach the bird. A pole was then used to gently move the bird without causing it any undue stress.
The team worked in coordination with members of the forest department and nagar nigam to carry out the rescue operation that took almost an hour. Once extricated, the kite was rushed to Wildlife SOS transit facility for urgent medical intervention.
The Black Kite (Milvus migrans) is a medium-sized bird of prey. It is thought to be the world’s most abundant species of Accipitridae, although some populations have experienced dramatic declines.
