As soon as the wave of Corona stopped, the business of counterfeit notes has started indiscriminately on the Indo-Nepal border. People from Dubai, Malaysia, Bangladesh and Pakistan are involved in this business. The major ports are Parsa and Bara districts of Nepal. The leader is in Dubai. A consignment of about 80 crore counterfeit notes has reached Nepal. After Diwali-Chhath, cash will increase in the market till Holi. Fake notes will also be consumed in the same proportion.
To investigate this business, the Bhaskar team traveled 1000 km between India and Nepal. The team met 30 people to reach out to the smugglers. We found many people who had gone to jail for this business.

Bhaskar team met big businessman by becoming a criminal
After several attempts, the Bhaskar team reached a big trader of fake notes. He was met as a criminal. We said that we want to do a big job in which a huge amount of counterfeit notes will be involved. Asked him how much fake currency he could give.
When the businessman believed in us, he showed a video. In this, there were about 80 crores of 100, 200, 500, 2000 in two suitcases. He told that the printing of fake notes is done in Pakistan, Malaysia, Dubai and Bangladesh. From there the consignment reaches Nepal via Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Thailand, Singapore, UAE and Malaysia.

There is six fold profit in a 100 card
100 card or 100 rupee note. In reaching the Indian market from ISI, there is a six-fold benefit in a card of Rs 100. ISI delivers Rs 100 note to smugglers for Rs 25. From there the wholesale smuggler sells it to retail smugglers for Rs 30. The retail smuggler sells it for 35 to 40 rupees by bargaining. The bigger the note, the greater the benefit.
Hindu Smuggler-Muslim Face, Kid Career
The kingpin of fake currency smuggling believes more on caste, religion. In such a situation, many Hindu smugglers are doing business posing as Muslims. Abhishek Tiwari, who lives in Nepal, talks as Aslam in Dubai and Bangladesh. Instead of taking someone’s name, it gives information about notes, gold, drugs in the code. Children are also used as carriers to send consignments of notes to India. In Dussehra, Deepawali, Chhath, buying and selling increases. Preparation for the use of counterfeit notes starts from August itself.

Fake note business is running from jail in Nepal
After the murder of Nepal MP Mirza Dilshad Baig in 1998, Lal Mohammad was handling the work of D Company and ISI there. He died in a gang war on 19 September 2022. Now ISI is looking for a new face.
At present, Altaf Mian and Yunus Ansari are the biggest names in the business of fake currency, gold and drugs in Nepal. Both run their business from jail. ISI is betting on Altaf. The gang leader in Dubai also wants Altaf to be handed over the command of the gang in Nepal instead of Lal Mohammad.
New challenge: Counterfeit dollars through Nepal too
Big businessmen invest in US dollars to hide their earnings of number two. They don’t know that even the dollar is fake. Consignments of counterfeit dollars from Nepal are also being sent to many countries of the world.
Fake notes are carried in bundles of potatoes and clothes
Women, children smuggle small consignments of fake notes to the other side of the border for some money. In lieu of delivering two to three lakh fake notes in small polythene, women and children are given five hundred to thousand rupees.
Smugglers pack bundles of notes between potato sacks and bundles of cloth and apply polythene all around for Rs 10 to 20 lakhs or larger. Due to this, the note does not get caught even during checking. Smugglers use the fields along the trail. Smuggled goods are carried across the border on foot or by bicycle. From there it reaches other parts of the state by four wheelers.

Consignments of counterfeit notes come to India from Nepal through the Barhni border of Virganj, Rupandehi, Sanauli, Siddharthnagar. Fake notes are traded on original and trial basis after showing the video. The smugglers first show the video to assure the customer that they are trading in fake currency.
Dainik Bhaskar’s team met 30 people to get in touch with the smugglers. Many such smugglers were also found, who had gone to jail in the business of counterfeit currency. But, these people refused to tell anything saying that they now only inform for the Indian intelligence agency. But, after constant contact in Nepal and Raxaul, an old smuggler of fake currency was met.
He showed a video after two hours of conversation. In this, there were about 80 lakh rupees in two suitcases of 100, 200, 500, 2000. We asked to show the note. After much hesitation, he was ready. Calling at 10:30 in the night, he called to a place and brought five and a half lakh rupees in 11 bundles of five-five hundred and put them in front.
When the team talked about buying the note, he agreed to give Rs 100 note for Rs 40. Demanded 1.5 lakh Indian rupees in exchange for five and a half lakhs of fake currency. We (Dainik Bhaskar) called him the next day asking to ask his boss. During the conversation, he gave information about a smuggler named Afroz. However, he did not come on the second day despite a long wait.
Then the team reached a hotel in Virganj in Nepal. After a long wait, Afroz reached there. He took the team with him to some Suvaithwa village, 40 km away from Virganj. On the way, the smuggler gave complete information about the business.
Where does the note come from? Where is it printed and where is it supplied? After reaching Suvaitwa, the smuggler made him sit in an under-construction room. After 45 minutes he brought three bundles of 500 rupees notes in a polythene. Instead of each bundle, he asked for a genuine note of Rs 15,000. The team asked to send the money across the border to India. Then he increased the commission to 20 thousand rupees per bundle.
Then the team demanded some notes to show the samples to the real businessmen sitting above them. He flatly refused it. Bhaskar’s team returned to Raxaul saying that they would come the next day. The next day, he got the sample of notes delivered at the hands of the child at the Nepal-India border (Mahdeva-Sahdeva village).
The sample came to India from the front of Nepal Police
On one side there was SSB camp, while on the other side Nepal Police personnel were standing. The team entered the India border with a sample of fake notes in front of Nepal Police. During this it was also learned that ISI and Dawood Ibrahim’s company keep agents on commission for supply of counterfeit notes in India through agents. 25 to 30 percent commission is given for every 100 rupees.
