Ayushmann Khurrana’s political thriller ‘Anek’, released on May 27, opened to a slow start at the box office. According to Box Office India, the film collected Rs 1.75 crore on the opening day.
The collection of ‘Anek’ is almost half of Ayushmann’s last film ‘Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui’ which had earned Rs 3 crore on its first day.
As per a report in BoxOfficeIndia.com, “Anek has collected poorly on the first day with collections set to be around 1.75 crore nett. There was faster movement in the evening and night shows but not the type suggesting something spectacular on Saturday which the film will need if it is to go anywhere. There have been dull openings post the pandemic but this is one of the lowest out of all the major releases.”
Anek’s collections are affected by the release of Tom Cruise’s ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ with it and also by Kartik Aaryan’s ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’. ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ is doing good in its second week also and is all set to enter the 100 crore club on Saturday.
Anek is the second collaboration between director Anubhav Sinha and Ayushmann after ‘Article 15’. The film is based on the insurgency in North-East India and the injustice that the people of North East India have to suffer, and how they have always received step-motherly treatment from the people of their own country. Ayushmann is playing an undercover cop in the film.
Also starring Andrea Kevichusa, ‘Anek’ is jointly produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series and Anubhav Sinha’s Benaras Mediaworks.
