The nurses’ union at AIIMS, Delhi, has announced an indefinite strike, following the suspension of its president, nursing officer Harish Kajla.

The nurses’ union at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, has decided to go on an indefinite strike till the suspension of AIIMS nursing officer Harish Kajla is revoked. Kajla was suspended on Saturday, April 23, for allegedly heading a strike by a group of nurses over staff shortage that led to the cancellation of several planned surgeries.

Kajla was suspended based on statements provided by doctors and other staffers present during the protest near the main operation theatre.

The nurses’ union alleged that Kajla, who is also the president of the union, was suspended without proper reason. The strike starts at 8 am on Tuesday.

“The undemocratic AIIMS administration will be solely responsible for the consequences if any,” the union said in a letter to the director of the institute.
