A contraceptive pill has to be taken daily, which causes tension. If you forget, then the fear of getting pregnant starts haunting. The easiest way to avoid this is through contraceptive injection. Which gives freedom from the hassle of taking pills every day. Due to this, while the woman remains free about her body, she does not have to plead in front of her partner for the safety of the body.

Injections are given every 3 months

Contraceptive injections contain progesterone hormones that prevent pregnancy. Meera Pathak, a gynecologist at Community Health Center, Noida Sector-110, says that this injection is given every 3 months. These injections are very beneficial for women who find it difficult or forget to take contraceptive pills. This injection is called DMPA.

sperm does not reach the uterus

Every month an egg is formed in the body of women. By taking a contraceptive injection, the hormone progesterone is released which keeps getting into the blood. This thickens the cervical mucus, which prevents sperm from entering the woman’s uterus during intercourse.

applied on the first or second day of periods

According to Dr Meera Pathak, this injection is 99% effective. It is applied on the first or second day of periods. Along with this, the woman is told that if there is a relationship for the next 7 days, then use a condom or diaphragm because the injection starts taking effect after 7 days.

The best thing about this injection is that if a woman has got it done on 1st August and has not been able to get it done on 1st October due to some reason, then she can get the injection done anytime within 28 days.

After three months, if there is a gap of 28 days in the injection, then the first pregnancy test of the woman is done. The injection is given only if the test is negative. But after this again it is advised to use condoms while having a relationship for the next 7 days.

Even after getting this injection, there is a chance of pregnancy only if there is an unprotected relationship between 7 days after taking the dose or the injection is not administered correctly or in the right amount. But so far no such cases have come to the fore.

Dosage can be applied after 42 days of delivery

Contraceptive injection can be given after 42 days of delivery. This does not affect the feeding of the baby. Whereas if contraceptive pills are taken, then less milk can be produced. At the same time, in case of miscarriage or abortion, it can be done immediately so that the next pregnancy can be avoided.

These women should not take injections

If someone has had high blood pressure, chronic diabetes, blood clotting, brain stroke, liver disease or heart attack, then those women should not take these injections.

free injections

Contraceptive injection was created in 1960 under the name Depo Provera. In the US, it was approved by the Food and Drug Administration on October 29, 1992. In India, this injection was approved by the Drug Controller General of India in June 1993. Here it was launched under the National Family Planning Programme.

In government hospitals and community health centres, a free contraceptive injection named Antara is given. At the same time, Depo Provera injection is sold in the market, which is available for Rs 406.

According to the National Health Statistics report, 23% of women in the US get injections.

no change in body

There is no change in the body after taking the injection. Sometimes a woman’s body is not able to adjust to its dosage immediately. Because of this sometimes blood spotting occurs. Periods also sometimes last for some time up to 15 days, but this has been seen in fewer women.

Indian women are adopting modern methods

According to the report of Family Planning 2020, 1.39 crore girls and women in India are adopting new methods of contraception. These also include contraceptive injections. According to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5) 2019-21, awareness about contraception has increased in India. 67% of women use contraceptives. At the same time, according to the Ministry of Health, 99496 women got the dose of contraceptive injection in the year 2019-2020 in Rajasthan.
