Of course, in Himachal, women vote 3 to 4% more every time than men. But it is unfortunate that due to less opportunities in politics, women are less active in politics. This time too, out of 412 candidates trying their luck in the assembly elections, only 24 women are contesting. The surprising thing is that in the 40 years of history of the hill state of Himachal Pradesh, only 42 women have been able to cross the threshold of the assembly.

This time only 24 women tickets
Talking about this time’s assembly elections, BJP and other political parties have given tickets to only 14 women. It is surprising that BJP has fielded only 6 women candidates on 68 seats. Means even 9% seats were not given to women. Similarly, Congress has fielded less than 5% i.e. 3 women and AAP has fielded only 5 women as its candidates, while half of the population is women.

only 4 women expected to win
BJP Has fielded Sarveen Chowdhary from Shahpur, Rita Dhiman from Indora, Reena Kashyap from Pachhad, Shashibala from Rohru, Neelam Nayyar from Chamba and Maya Sharma from Barsar.

Congress Has reposed faith in Asha, Dayal Pyari and Champa Thakur. Has expressed confidence in Asha Kumari from Dalhousie, Dayal Pyari from Pachhad and Champa Thakur from Mandi Sadar.

AAP Has nominated Manisha Kumari from Noorpur, Pooja Thakur from Sundernagar, Rajni Kaushal from Bhoranj, Anju Rathore from Solan and Jabna Chauhan from Nachan.

This time also 4.4% more women voted
Due to the neglect of political parties, in three decades from 1972 to 2017, only 42 women have been able to cross the threshold of the assembly. The truth is that in the elections to Vidhansabha, Lok Sabha and Panchayati Raj Institutions, maximum number of times women have voted more. In this also 72.4% male voters and 76.8% female voters have cast their votes.

50% reservation for women in Panchayati Raj
The former Prem Kumar Dhumal government of Himachal had reserved 50% posts for women in Panchayati Raj institutions during the tenure of 2007-12. Because of this, women are coming to Panchayati Raj institutions in greater numbers than men. But, women are getting less opportunities in the assembly.
