As mercury soars in Europe breaching all records, Greece continues to struggle in restricting a wildfire that has engulfed forestland in Athens for a fifth day on Friday, as reported by Reuters. Greece is set for more intense heat this weekend. The meterologists have warned that the temperature can rise up to 45 degrees celsius, as per a report in BBC. Europe has been witnessing its hottest summer in a long time with a rapid increase in temperatures in a number of countries including Spain, Italy and Germany.

- “This weekend risks being the hottest registered in July in the past 50 years,” said Panagiotis Giannopoulos, a meteorologist with state broadcaster ERT, quoted by AFP news agency. “Athens is going to have temperatures above 40 degrees celsius for six to seven days, through to the end of July,” he added.
- Temperatures have been soaring across countries in Europe. In Spain, mercury is expected to reach 44 degrees celcius in Guadalquivir Valley near Seville, Sky News reported. - In France, an orange weather alert has been sounded for some cities along the Mediterranean coast. Temperatures are predicted to reach 34 and 36 degrees celsius around Marseille by Wednesday. Paris is likely to remain cooler at 29C, as reported by Sky News. Germany is also likely to witness a rise in temparature. The Bavaria region recorded a temperature of 38.8 degrees celsius.
