After the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Musewala, his song based on Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal has been released. In this, Moosewala has mentioned Balwinder Singh Jatana. Jatana along with his associates shot dead two officers in Chandigarh. After which the officers were so scared that no one was ready to put their hands in this work. Due to which the work of Sutlej-Yamuna link canal in Punjab had stopped there at that time.

Jatana came with colleagues in a moving meeting, killed 2 engineers
This incident is of 23 July 1990. A meeting was going on in Chandigarh’s Sector 26 office regarding the construction of the Sutlej-Yamuna link canal. Through this the water of Punjab was to go to Haryana and Delhi. When the meeting was taking place, Balwinder Jatana, a resident of Ropar, reached there along with Balbir Singh Fauji, Jagtar Singh Pinjola and Harmeet Singh Bhaowal. It is said that Jatana reached there and killed SYL’s Chief Engineer and Superintending Engineer MS Sikri and Avtar Aulakh along with his companions.

4 members of Jatana’s family killed
Balwinder Jatana was accused of murder. After this the police started looking for Jatana. After this the police reached his house on 30 November 1991. Where Jatana was not found but the family got involved. Nirpreet Kaur, who was Jatana’s accomplice, claimed that at that time with the help of a Poohla Nihang, Jatana’s grandmother Dwarki Kaur, aunt Jamsher Kaur, sister Manpreet Kaur and nephew Simranjit Singh were burnt alive by the police. Nirpreet Kaur also confirmed that Jatana had killed the engineers.
It is being claimed that 4 members of Balwinder Singh Jatana’s family were burnt alive.
Jatana’s Encounter
After this the police started looking for Jatana. A reward of 16 lakhs was announced on Jatana. After this, on 4 September 1991, Jatana was going towards Sadhugarh village with his partner Charanjit Singh Channa. In the afternoon, he saw the police block ahead. After which he started running away from the fields located nearby. There the police shot him and made an encounter.

Balwinder Singh Jatana was associated with the Babbar Khalsa. Jatana Babbar was counted among the close people of Khalsa Mukhi Sukhdev Singh Babbar. For this reason, Jatana was made Lieutenant General of Malwa area of Punjab. At that time, the activities of Babbar Khalsa in Malwa area were carried on only at the behest of Jatana.
Jatana was associated with the terrorist organization Babbar Khalsa. He is considered one of the close associates of the organization’s chief Sukhdev Singh Babbar.
