Junior Mehmood passed away due to cancer at the age of 67 at his residence in Mumbai on December 7, 2023. Ace actors like Johnny Lever, Sachin Pilgaonkar, Raza Murad, Yashpal Sharma, Jaaved Jaaferi, Aditya Pancholi, and singer Sudesh Bhosale paid their last respects to the veteran actor on Friday. But, did you know that Junior Mehmood once visited Mehmood’s house and took a jibe at him, leaving the star in shock? However, that also resulted in a miracle for Junior Mehmood.

His title, Junior Mehmood was given by Mehmood himself. The duo had worked together in the movie Suhaag Raat in 1968. Mehmood was once hosting a birthday party for his daughter and invited many except Naeem Sayyed. In an interview with the media, Junior Mehmood revealed that when he was informed of Mehmood Saheb’s daughter’s birthday celebration and he was not invited, he decided to visit him. After reaching the place, he directly asked Mehmood, “Kya bhaijaan, mera baap koi producer ya director ya writer nahi hai toh aapke bachche ke function mei nahi aa sakta kya? (What brother, my father is not a producer, director or writer, so I am not invited to your child’s function)?”

After hearing this from Naeem, Mehmood was stunned to hear this and immediately invited him to be a part of the event. At this party, Naeem Sayyed danced enthusiastically to the tunes of Hum Kale Hai To song. After seeing his talent, Mehmood honoured him with the title of Junior Mehmood and ever since Naeed ruled the hearts of the audience as Junior Mehmood.

Born Naeem Sayyed, Junior Mehmood, over his illustrative career, worked in 265 movies in seven different languages. He has also produced and directed six Marathi movies. The actor was suffering from stomach cancer which eventually led to his death.

Junior Mehmood was part of several hits such as Brahmachari, Kati Patang, Hare Raama Hare Krishna, Geet Gaata Chal, Baap Numbri Beta Dus Numbri, Aaj Ka Arjun, and Chhote Sarkar among many others.
