WhatsApp Is Testing A New Channels Alert Feature: What It Is And How It Works – News18

WhatsApp is testing this feature with its beta testers.

WhatsApp is testing a new feature that will allow channel creators to be informed about the status of their channels, especially when they are not functional in a certain nation.

Meta launched the WhatsApp Channels feature in India and other countries last week. The feature allows you to send one-way broadcasts, including text, photos, videos, stickers, and polls. Now, WhatsApp is testing a new feature that will allow channel creators to be informed about the status of their channels, especially when they are not functional in a certain nation.

WhatsApp is reportedly doing this to follow local laws in some places that might not allow certain things to be shared.

Who Is This Feature Available For?

WABetaInfo notes that this feature is available to some beta testers after they install the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.20.9 update from the Google Play Store. After this update, WhatsApp notifies the channel’s creator that their channel is restricted in a certain country. This feature will roll out to more users in the coming days.

“These alerts aim to keep channel creators informed about the status of their channels in specific countries where they might be restricted due to legal requirements,” WABetaInfo said. It added, “This proactive approach shows that WhatsApp is dedicated to following local laws and protecting human rights while offering a safe and private platform for its users.”

How To Check If You Have This Feature?

Currently, there is no way to determine if this feature is available to you unless you follow a channel that is specifically not available in your country. In addition, WABetaInfo says they can’t verify any such channels for now, but the publication notes that these channel alerts are indeed available for creators already.
