A group of lawyers have been protesting against Calcutta High Court Judge Rajshekhar Mantha for the past few months. Protesting lawyers claim that judges are biased in the case of special cases. Therefore, cases of police inaction and over-activity should be removed from the bench of Justice Rajashekhar Manthar immediately. A group of lawyers decided to boycott Justice Rajshekhar Mantha’s bench on this demand. However, the Lawyers’ Bar Association denied the decision.
What is the reason for the boycott of Justice Rajasekhar Mantha?
According to the sources of the High Court, for the last few months, mainly grassroots lawyers have been protesting against Justice Rajashekhar Mantha.. According to them, Justice Rajashekhar Mantha is ruling against the state in most of the cases. Besides, he is always ruling in opposition leader Subhendu Adhikari’s cases. Court No. 13 of the Calcutta High Court is hearing cases of police inaction or over-action in the bench of Justice Rajashekhar Manthar. Therefore, pro-Trinamool lawyers started a protest to shift the case from the bench of Justice Rajkumar Manthar. They appealed to the Chief Justice on this demand. On the other hand, BJP-backed lawyers are strongly against it. As a result, they do not agree with the decision of grassroots lawyers. They want the case to be heard in the court of Justice Rajashekhar Mantha.
Meanwhile, Justice Rajashekhar Manthar’s decision to boycott the Ajalas divided lawyers. According to Trinamool advocates, the general meeting of the Bar Association has decided to boycott Justice Rajashekhar Mantha’s bench. However, Bar Association President Arunabh Ghosh said, ‘No such decision has been taken by the Bar. Those who are boycotting Ejlas are doing this for political purposes. The Bar cannot take such a decision.’
