Team India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey heaped praise on Arshdeep Singh for showing a great amount of composure under pressure. Arshdeep has been able to grab the limelight in his short stint with the national team, having picked up five wickets from three matches at an economy rate of 5.91.

In the two matches against the West Indies, Arshdeep picked up three wickets at an economy of 6.25. After picking up two wickets in the first T20I at Brian Lara Stadium, where India won by 68 runs, the southpaw performed to expectations in the second match at Warner Park as well.

With West Indies needing 31 to win off the last four overs in St Kitts, Arshdeep gave away four and six runs respectively in the 17th and 19th overs. Mhambrey, who joined the Indian team back in November 2021, praised Arshdeep for hitting the right channels in the powerplay and death overs.

“I’ve been watching him for a long time now, since the IPL as well. Something that really stood out for me was his ability to absorb pressure. If you look at it, he bowls the hard overs, the overs in the powerplay and also at the death. In terms of the composure he has shown, I’m very happy, especially the way he turned up in the last game as well.

“This game, the 17th over he bowled, showed a lot about the ability that he has. I’m very happy to see him deliver for the team,” he added.

Despite Arshdeep’s effort, India lost the second T20I by five wickets. Obed McCoy picked up a six-wicket haul and the Men in Blue were bowled out for 138 in 19.4 overs. The Caribbean team chased the target down in 19.2 overs after Brandon King’s half-century and Devon Thomas’s late cameo.
