According to Vikas Thakur’s mother Asha Thakur, he is originally from Patnaun village of Toni Devi tehsil of Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh. There were no special facilities in Himachal. His dream was that both the children should get a good education. Therefore, seeing the future of the children, they left Himachal and shifted to Punjab. Vikas grew up in the Railway Colony of Ludhiana. He grew up playing with the kids there.

Started practice from the age of 7

Vikas Thakur’s father Brijraj tells that Vikas was 3 years old, when he came to Punjab from Himachal. He was fond of sports since childhood. The family also wanted him to pursue a career in sports. Instead of going for group games, Vikas was asked to go for individual games. Earlier Vikas had to go into boxing, but due to no good coach in Ludhiana, he had to go into weightlifting. Starting practice from home

Brijraj explains that whenever Vikas used to refuse someone for housework, he only used to tell him that if you do not work then it does not matter, you stop going to the club from tomorrow and then Vikas used to do all the work. I started the practice of development from home. He brought a weight of 70 kg at home. At the same time, Parvesh Sharma, who was a coach in Ludhiana, also made him work very hard. The result of that hard work is in front of everyone today.

Vikas sets new record

Father Brijraj told that today Vikas has made a new record with a hat-trick. From 2014 to 2022, by winning two silver medals and one bronze medal, India’s youth power has been waved in the world. Vikas was the champion in India for 9 times. 35 tours have been arranged by the Government of India abroad. He has brought medals for the country on every tour. Vikas had put 198 weights to break his record of 197 today, but the record was not broken.

Father Brijraj says that the Punjab government has given full support to the development. He has been playing for Punjab since 2011. In Patiala, complete facilities like medical, coaching etc. are available. There were camps in England for the last two months, so the government had sent them. Vikas is so attached to sports that he does not attend any kinship marriage ceremony. He believes that if he stays away from practice for 4 to 5 days, then he will go back 1 month.
