New Delhi: On India’s 75th year of independence, the Indian government will organise a 1000 drone light show to highlight the country’s accomplishments. The event will take place on January 29 during the ‘Beating Retreat Ceremony.’

A video clip of 1000 Made In India drone rehearsing for the upcoming Beating Retreat Ceremony has been posted by the news agency ANI on its official Twitter handle.

A laser show would be held for the first time at the Beating Retreat ceremony. Rehearsals are being done for the ceremony, to be held at the Vijay Chowk on January 29th,” ANI tweeted.

The Beating Retreat Ceremony is organised every year after the Republic Day Celebration on January 29. This time, it will feature 1,000 drones flying in rhythm to background music, as well as a laser ‘projection mapping’ performance.

The new drone exhibition was conceptualised by the Ministry of Defence, and it will be organised by an IIT Delhi-based startup.

Beating Retreat Ceremony

The four-day-long Republic Day celebration culminates with the Beating Retreat. The ceremony marks the return of the Army to its barracks.

The Beating Retreat ceremony started in India in the 1950s. Major Robert of the Indian Army back then completed this ceremony with a display of bands of the armies. The chief guest during the Beating the Retreat ceremony is the President.

Republic Day Parade

Apart from the drone show that is going to be one of the key highlights of the Republic Day celebration this year, another thing that people are waiting eagerly for is the air past of 75 aircraft that would fly over the Rajpath during the Republic Day parade.

Five Rafale jets would fly in a Vinaash formation whereas Navy’s MiG29K and P8I aircraft would also participate for the first time.

As Republic Day 2022 will be celebrated it will be the second Republic Day celebration during the Covid-19 pandemic. With a recent surge in cases, no foreign dignitaries will be invited for the celebration.
