Coimbatore: A 35-year-old wall painter has been arrested for sexually assaulting an eight-year-old daughter of one of his relatives at his rental house at Kovilmedu here on January 9.
The Thudiyalur all-woman police said the incident came to light when K Sabari, a native of Chittalancheri in Palakkad district, approached the girl on Tuesday, inviting her to his house.
“When the girl’s elder brothers’ noticed his odd behaviour, they questioned him. Sabari immediately sought their permission to marry the girl. Infuriated, they thrashed him up. The girl then came forward to reveal that Sabari had taken her to his rental house at Kovilmedu on January 9 and molested her,” a police officer said.
The girl’s mother subsequently lodged a case with the Thudiyalur all-woman police, who registered a case under Section 5(n)(m) read with 6(I) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act on Tuesday evening and arrested Sabari.
Preliminary inquiry revealed Sabari was in the habit of inviting the Class IV girl student to his rental house by pampering her and telling her that she was very beautiful.
