Visva Bharati: Attempt to screen controversial BBC documentary stopped, Rajnath Singh was present on campus

Left-leaning students tried to block the screening of the controversial BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Visva Bharati University on Thursday evening. However, the police stopped them from doing so. During this, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh was present in the campus to participate in a cultural function. Rajnath Singh reached the campus on Thursday afternoon. He will attend the convocation ceremony of the Central University on Friday.

A spokesperson for the Democratic Students’ Organization (DSO), the student wing of the Socialist Unity Center of India (communist), said that both the university authorities and the police prevented them from screening ‘India: The Modi Question’ on the grounds that projectors inside the campus And screening is not allowed. DSO spokesperson said that we initially thought of screening the documentary in January, but later decided to postpone it. When we came to know that Union Minister Rajnath Singh is coming to Visva-Bharati University on Thursday. We decided to have a screening of the documentary in the evening.

Action taken as per VVIP protocol

A police officer said there was no information about the screening of the controversial BBC documentary on the premises. Due to the presence of VVIPs like Defense Minister, police took necessary steps as per standard security protocol. However, no comment has been made by the Visva Bharati administration on this issue yet. The BBC documentary was screened by student organizations in several other universities in West Bengal.
