AIZAWL: The Mizoram health department officials began inoculation of children aged between 12 and 14 years with Covid-19 vaccine in Aizawl district on Wednesday.
State health department officials said there were nearly 44,000 people in this age group and there was a stock of 40,500 Corbevax doses.
“The shots were administered to children in Aizawl district on Wednesday, while other districts would be covered from March 21,” the officials said.
Meanwhile, even as the number of daily Covid-19 caseload decreased from 270 on Wednesday to 239 on Thursday, Mizoram continued to report the country’s second highest cases. The state also logged the country’s third highest active cases, while the test positivity rate (TPR) in the last 24 hours stood at 6.24% as against the national average of 0.35%. Mizoram not only continued to have the highest daily Covid-19 caseload among the eight northeastern states for months, but contributed 93% of the total cases in the last 24 hours as the rest of the seven states logged only 18 cases. Except for Manipur, Meghalaya and Nagaland, which logged seven, eight and three cases respectively in the last 24 hours, the rest of the states in the region did not even report a single case.
