Amid Farmer Protests, Haryana Announces Interest Waiver On Crop Loans:

On February 23, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced a waiver of interest and penalties on certain crop loans while presenting a Rs 1.89 lakh crore budget for the fiscal year 2024-25. At a time when farmers are stepping up their protests at the Punjab-Haryana border, Khattar announced the budget proposals and claimed that his government has taken numerous steps to ensure farmers’ welfare, including providing the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for 14 crops. Additionally, the government has decided to increase financial support for families of soldiers killed in action to Rs 1 crore.

National Commission For ST Team Visits Sandeshkhali:

On February 22, a three-member delegation from the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) visited trouble-torn Sandeshkhali in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district and spoke with locals. The NCST visit comes just days after the National Commission for Women and the National Commission for Scheduled Castes paid their visits. “We will meet the people there and look into their complaints,” NCST acting chairperson Ananta Nayak told reporters. On February 21, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued a notice to the state government and police chief regarding the ongoing violence and human rights violations in the area.

ISRO Completes Human Rating Of CE20 Engine:

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced on February 21 that it had completed a major milestone in the human rating of its CE20 cryogenic engine, which powers the cryogenic stage of the human-rate LVM3 launch vehicle for its Gaganyaan mission. On February 13, the final round of ground qualifications for the engine was completed. According to the space agency, the ground qualification tests for the CE20 engine’s human rating included life demonstrations, endurance tests, and performance evaluations under nominal operating conditions as well as off-nominal conditions in terms of thrust, mixture ratio, and propellant tax pressure.

US Imposes Sanctions on 3 Russian Officials:

The US has imposed sanctions on three Russian government officials in connection with the death in custody of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, the Treasury Department announced on February 23, one week after Russia’s most well-known opposition politician died in an Arctic penal colony. Following Navalny’s unexpected death, hundreds of Russians across the country flocked to impromptu memorials with flowers and candles for President Vladimir Putin’s fiercest foe. The Treasury Department announced today that the State Department will designate three officials.

India Register Biggest Win in Rajkot Test Against England:

On February 18, Team India recorded a historic victory in Rajkot, defeating a hapless English side by 434 runs after bundling out the visitors for a paltry 122 runs after setting a target of 557. The victory was the team’s biggest by runs, giving Rohit Sharma and co. a 2-1 lead in the five-match Test series against England. Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 214 runs, while Sarfaraz Khan remained unbeaten on 68 runs as India out-batted the visitors.
