MEA Issues Advisory Warning Indian Nationals Of Job Scams In Laos, Cambodia

In the wake of rising incidents of job scams targeting Indian nationals, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued an advisory on Friday warning Indian nationals against the increasing numbers of fraudulent jobs by scammers in Southeast Asian countries, including Laos and Cambodia. The advisory outlines the presence of fake agents in the region, luring individuals with promises of employment opportunities, and emphasises the need for caution. These fake offers, for positions such as ‘Customer Support Service’ and ‘Digital Sales and Marketing Executives’ come with perks such as high salaries, visa facilitation, and hotel accommodations. However, people later find themselves stuck in harsh working conditions, facing physical and mental torture.

Mumbai Hoarding Collapse: Death Toll Mounts To 16, Bhavesh Bhinde Arrested

Following the rescue operation at the horrific Ghatkopar hoarding collapse site in Mumbai, which lasted for three days, BMC commissioner Bhushan Gagrani announced that the rescue operation was over on May 16. The hoarding collapse claimed the lives of as many as 16 people after the bodies of a retired general manager of Air Traffic Control (ATC) and his wife were extracted from a car stuck underneath the hoarding. The hoarding measured about 1,338 square metres (14,400 square feet), nine times more than the maximum permitted size for a hoarding. The crime branch team of Mumbai police arrested Bhinde, the director of Ego Media Pvt Ltd, the advertising agency responsible for erecting the hoarding in the Ghatkopar area of Mumbai.

Neeraj Chopra Wins Gold in Federation Cup

Indian athlete and Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra clinched the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw event in the Federation Cup. The 26-year-old athlete struggled in the competition in the first three rounds, however, he took the lead in the fourth round with a remarkable throw of 82.27 meters. Meanwhile, Neeraj last participated in a domestic competition at the same event on March 17, 2021, where he won gold with a throw of 87.80m. His personal best and the national record is 89.94m, however, he has yet to touch the 90m mark.

NCW Vows Action Against Alleged Assault on Swati Maliwal

The National Commission for Women recently took to X and stated that it will be sending an inquiry team to look into the alleged assault on AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal. They also mentioned that they would send a formal letter to the Delhi Police to send an action report on the matter. Swati Maliwal alleged that a close aide of Arvind Kejriwal, Bibhav Kumar, assaulted her on the CM’s directions at his official residence.

Supreme Court Seeks EC’s Response on Plea Over Release of Voter Turnout Data

The Supreme Court sought a response from the Election Commission of India (ECI) within a week to an NGO’s plea seeking a direction to release polling station-wise voter turnout data on its website within 48 hours of Lok Sabha polls. However, the bench stated that the EC should be given some reasonable time to respond to the plea and petition and scheduled a hearing before an appropriate bench during the summer vacation on May 24, a day before the 6th phase of the seven-phase LS polls.
