In a bid to influence the women voters in the poll-bound state, Congress had been holding marathon rallies across Uttar Pradesh as part of its ‘Ladki Hoon Lad Sakti Hoon’ campaign under the leadership of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. However, the marathon rallies are now on hold due to the Election Commission’s ban on physical rallies in view of the raging Covid-19 in the country.

Congress had announced the first list of 125 candidates a week ago out of which 50 women were given the party ticket to contest the elections, including the mother of Unnao rape victim. “From Shahjahanpur, we have fielded Asha worker Poonam Pandey who led an agitation for a raise in honorarium,” Vadra had said while declaring the first list, according to news agency ANI.

In the past few months, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra announced several women-centric promises including smartphones to Class 12 pass girls, electric scooters to graduating women, and skill development schools for women.

The Uttar Pradesh assembly elections will be held in seven phases from February 10 to March 7. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
