UP Board Includes Savarkar’s Biography As Compulsory Subject In Syllabus

The Uttar Pradesh government has made a significant decision to introduce Veer Savarkar’s biography as a mandatory subject for students in the state board curriculum, as reported by ANI. The Board has made an addition to its syllabus for Classes 9 to 12 by including biographies of 50 great personalities including Vinayak Damodar ‘Savarkar’, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Sarojini Naidu, Bhagat Singh, Gautam Buddha, Mahavir Jain, and Swami Vivekananda. These biographies aim to provide students with insights into the lives and contributions of these influential individuals,

The recent revision of the UP board syllabus is noteworthy. According to a statement, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has included the life story of Veer Savarkar in the curriculum with the intention of familiarizing the children of the state with the remarkable individuals who played vital roles as freedom fighters, revolutionaries, social reformers, historians, and great personalities in India’s struggle for independence.

The revised syllabus will be implemented in schools from July onwards, making this subject compulsory for all students. Although the marks obtained in this subject will not be reflected on the high school and intermediate mark sheets, the objective is to enhance students’ knowledge about the stories of the country’s freedom fighters.

UP Board has also included the life story of these personalities in the subject of moral yoga, sports and physical education. More than one crore students from classes 9 to 12 in more than 27 thousand government, aided and unaided schools of UP Board will read the life stories of these personalities.

As per the recent notification, the UP board syllabus includes the life stories of various influential figures for different classes.

In Class IX, students will study the life stories of individuals such as Chandra Shekhar Azad, Birsa Munda, Begum Hazrat Mahal, Veer Kunwar Singh, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, Gautam Buddha, Jyotiba Phule, Chhatrapati Shivaji, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, Vinoba Bhave, Srinivasa. Ramanujan, and Jagadish Chandra Bose. Class X students will learn about Mangal Pandey, Roshan Singh, Sukhdev, Lokmanya Tilak, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Mahatma Gandhi, Khudiram Bose, and Swami Vivekananda.

In classes XI and XII, the life stories of notable individuals like Ram Prasad Bismil, Bhagat Singh, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, Mahavir Jain, Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, Arvind Ghosh, Raja Rammohan Roy, Sarojini Naidu, Nana Saheb, Maharishi Patanjali, Sushrut (Shalya Physician), and Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha will be covered.

Additionally, Class XII students will study the life stories of Ramakrishna Paramhansa, Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi, Rabindranath Tagore, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Rani Laxmibai, Maharana Pratap, Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, Adi Shankaracharya, Guru Nanak Dev, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Ramanujacharya, Panini, Aryabhatta, and CV Raman.

According to UP Education Minister Gulab Devi, the inclusion of these chapters aims to reinforce the moral and cultural values of students who will contribute to the nation-building process as they grow up.
