Registration is done on the Covin portal for Covid-19 vaccination, in which the person also has to feed personal information.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Saket Gokhale has claimed that the data of the central government’s web portal CoWIN has been leaked. Apart from common people, names of big leaders, officers and journalists are also included in these.
Gokhale has also shared several screenshots on his Twitter handle to prove the claim. These include people’s name-address, mobile, Aadhaar, voter ID and their family’s information.
On Gokhale’s claim, the Ministry of Information Technology says that this is old data. At present, we are investigating it and a report has also been sought from the officials of the portal regarding this.

Data leak of journalists including political personalities
In the Twitter thread, Gokhale also claimed that names of Rajya Sabha MP and TMC leader Derek O’Brien, former Union minister P Chidambaram, Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh and KC Venugopal were included through the CoWIN portal.
On the other hand, the other screenshots shared by Gokhale include the names of Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh, Rajya Sabha MPs Sushmita Dev, Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Sanjay Raut. Apart from this, data of journalists like Rajdeep Sardesai, Barkha Dutt, Rahul Shivshankar has also been leaked.
Gokhale has also shared screen shots of leaked data of several senior journalists apart from political personalities.
Earlier also claims were made of data leakage
Earlier in 2021 and 2022 also, claims were made of leaking personal data of the people registered in the Covin portal. Even at that time, many screen shots of many information including Aadhaar, Voter ID card, PAN card and mobile number of those who got vaccinated were also shared in social media. However, the Government of India rejected those claims.
