New Delhi: At least three people were killed and four others were injured in a shooting in an upscale neighbourhood in Los Angeles in California early Saturday morning, news agency AP reported.
The injured people have been rushed to the hospital and are in critical condition.
According to the AP report, Los Angeles Police said the shooting incident took place just after 2:30 a.m. in Beverly Crest on Saturday.
Of the seven people who were shot, four were standing outside and the three who were killed were inside a vehicle. The identities of the victims have not been released.
According to police, they did not have information on what led to the shooting or if it occurred at a residence.
It is to be noted that this is the fourth mass shooting in California this month.
The shooting incident on Saturday comes just a week after a massacre at a dance hall in a Los Angeles suburb that left 11 dead and nine injured and only days after a gunman opened fire on a pair of mushroom farms south of San Francisco on Monday. In that shooting incident, seven people were killed and one sustained injuries.
The killings have dealt a blow to the state, which has some of the nation’s toughest firearm laws and lowest rates of gun deaths.
Notably, for the third year in a row, the United States in 2022 reported over 600 mass shootings.
Meanwhile, amid mass shooting incidents, the White House earlier this week announced that it had reintroduced broad gun control measures in the Senate to extend the 2004 assault weapons ban.
On Monday, a group of senators reintroduced the Federal Assault Weapons Ban and legislation to make 21 the minimum age to purchase assault weapons.
“We know the scourge of gun violence across America requires stronger action. I once again urge both chambers of Congress to act quickly and deliver this Assault Weapons Ban to my desk, and take action to keep American communities, schools, workplaces, and homes safe,” US President Joe Biden said in a statement.
