Three arrested for robbing Madurai jewellery store owner of over Rs 2.5 crore | Madurai News – Times of India

MADURAI: The Madurai district police arrested three men for kidnapping a jewellery store owner and robbing him of more than Rs 2.5 crore in cash when he was travelling from Madurai to Kanyakumari in his car on Sunday. The arrested included his car driver who masterminded the crime.
S Dharmaraj, who is the owner of a jewellery store at Arasaradi in Madurai, his car driver R Praveen Kumar, 26, and another worker were travelling to Nagercoil carrying Rs 2.5 crore in cash to purchase jewellery from there. Around 1pm when the car was near Nesaneri in Thirumangalam taluk, the driver and worker got down from it to relive themselves. Suddenly, two men wielding knives appeared and threatened Dharmaraj. One of them drove the car. The robbers dropped Dharmaraj near Sedapatti and escaped in the car with the Rs 2.5 crore in cash and his gold ring.
The Thirumangalam taluk police were alerted who formed three teams for investigation. They police questioned the car driver who confessed to masterminding the robbery with two of his friends. The police traced U Alex Pandian,26, and M Arunkumar, 26. All the three have been arrested on charges of kidnapping and robbery.
