The NGO named Harita Seva Samiti has opened a nursery inside Chivakula Sri Rama Sarma College, Ongole.

There are few cities in India where the air quality has been in a poor category due to various reasons, one of them being pollution. People nowadays have started planting at least one plant at their home or are gifting plants to friends and relatives to curb pollution. One of the biggest examples is Jacky Shroff. The actor is often captured with a plant, as his token of gift for someone, when he attends a party or event in Mumbai. A similar drive has been initiated by an NGO (non-governmental organisation) in the Ongole taluk of Addanki district in Andhra Pradesh. The NGO named Harita Seva Samiti has opened a plant nursery inside Chivukula Sri Rama Sarma College, Ongole. They established the nursery 15 years ago and have been going strong ever since. The experts monitoring the nursery said that everyone needs to plant trees to provide a pollution-free environment for future generations. The professors in the college also hailed the initiative. During the speeches at the event, they also promoted awareness about the need to plant more trees to increase the oxygen, which has been depleting over the years due to climate change.

The residents of Ongole have also supported the NGO-led nursery and have planted trees in their localities. The nursery was formed by CSR Sharma Chairman, Eswaraya the General Secretary and other board and faculty members. The main purpose of this Samiti was to grow plants and protect them. The Chairman of the college said that the committee was formed as part of the measures to protect the trees and control pollution. The Nursery, for 11 years, has distributed trees and small plants for free. They have now started monetising them by keeping nominal prices for the trees. The nursery holds around 100 different types of plants. Two women have been appointed to take care of them from dying, or any other issues.

Speaking with News18, the employees said that they are happy to have the great fortune of taking care of the plants. The residents of Ongole over the years have been visiting the nursery for plants and trees.
