Avani became the first woman fighter pilot by flying MiG-21

In the year 2018, Flight Lieutenant Avani Chaturvedi created history by flying a single MiG-21. Avni was the first woman fighter pilot in the country to do so. Originally from Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, Avani Chaturvedi had achieved this position after a long and difficult training. Initially, he flew with an associate pilot for a long time. But after 2018 she started flying MiG-21 alone.

The MiG-21 was the favorite plane of the three early women pilots.

In 2015, the Government of India allowed women to become pilots in the Indian Army. After which three women fighter pilots were inducted for the first time in the Indian Air Force in June 2016. Apart from Avani Chaturvedi, Mohana Jeetarwal and Bhawna Kant were the first three women fighter pilots in the country. All of them were trained on MiG-21. Nehru government bought MiG-21 from Soviet Union

In 1961, in the wake of a possible Chinese attack, the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru made a deal to buy MiG-21 fighter planes from the Soviet Union. However, it was delivered in 1964 after the Indo-China war. MiG-21 was India’s first modern fighter plane. Earlier, India had been using only the old fighter planes of the British era. At present, the army has 70 MiG-21 aircraft.
