The winter session of Parliament ended on Friday, a week ahead of schedule. For this, a consensus was reached between the ruling party and the opposition. The winter session, which began on December 7, was to end on December 29. But the government says that in the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of both the Houses, it was decided to end the session early with everyone’s approval.

During the winter session, 7 bills were passed in the Lok Sabha and 9 in the Rajya Sabha. The opposition remained adamant on demanding a debate with the government regarding the Tawang clash. But it was not discussed.

8th consecutive session that ended prematurely
According to the data received from PRS Legislative Research, all the Parliament sessions since the budget session in 2020 ended before the scheduled time. The winter session, which was adjourned sine die six days ago, is the 8th session in a row that has been curtailed.

More work done in Rajya Sabha than Lok Sabha
During the tenth session of the Lok Sabha, there were 13 sittings and the House functioned for 68 hours 42 minutes. 97% functioning of the Lok Sabha and 7 Bills including the Anti-Piracy Bill were passed during the session. The Rajya Sabha proceedings lasted for 64 hours 50 minutes. 102% work done.

Budget session may start from January 31
During the winter session, 9 bills were passed by both the Houses as well as 9 new bills were introduced. The Multi State Cooperative Societies Amendment Bill and the Jan Vishwas Bill were referred to the Joint Committee of the Parliament. The next session will be the budget session which is likely to begin on January 31. However, no one said anything on whether the next session will be held in the old Parliament building or in the new building.

Only Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that as soon as the new building is completely ready, the proceedings of the Parliament will start in it.
