Century-old Howrah station in Gangapara is going to be of international standard. The administration has already started its preparations. This century old station has an important contribution not only to Eastern Railway but also to Indian Railways. However, in keeping with modernity, the authorities are now trying to make Howrah station international standard. A total of 40 stations in the country will be made international flights. The name of Howrah station is there in that list.
From executive lounge, food court to shopping mall, gaming center, elevated road and moving stairs at places. And also departure and arrival routes will be separated like airports. According to railway sources, these works will be done through re-modelling and re-development to modernize Howrah station like an airport. Another floor will be constructed above the platform for the convenience of passengers. Where there will be passenger waiting room and long distance passengers can reach there directly by car. From there the passengers can get down to the specific platform. And on the lower floor, passengers can directly get off the train and go out on the platform. If this is the case then it will be possible to control the pressure of passengers within the station.
Besides, there are plans to increase the length of four platforms of Howrah station through re-modelling. Because in the coming days long distance trains may have 24 to 26 coaches. For that reason there are plans to increase the length of platforms 9, 14, 22 and 23. Railways estimates that it may cost 50 crore rupees. All in all, howrah station may take a few more years to complete, said Manish Jain, DRM of Howrah division. Besides, the interlocking system at Howrah station is 10 years old. As a result, it is known that a new internet system will be installed.
