The Speaker rejected the demand of observing West Bengal Day in the Assembly

The BJP has demanded the observance of West Bengal Day in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. Opposition leader Shuvendu Adhikari made the demand on Monday. BJP MLAs also marched in Kolkata on the occasion of West Bengal Day. However, Principal Biman Bandyopadhyay said there was no precedent for the assembly to observe West Bengal Day.

On the same day, the Leader of the Opposition said that the formation of West Bengal was sealed through the June 20 vote. Therefore, West Bengal Day should be celebrated on this day. The people of West Bengal should remember Shyamaprasad Mukherjee.

“I have no information about this,” he said. There is no precedent of observing such a day in the assembly.

Leaving the session, Shuvendubabu told a press conference, “The West Bengal government does not want to give any credit to Shyamaprasad Mukherjee. So they do not want to celebrate West Bengal Day. The principal says he has no information. If he goes to the library of the assembly, he will get the information. ‘

The BJP has started celebrating West Bengal Day for the last few years. They claimed that the decision to annex India to West Bengal, including Kolkata, was taken through a vote on 20 June. The BJP claims that Shyamaprasad Mukherjee saved West Bengal from becoming part of East Pakistan.
