Gurvinder Singh alias Baba alias Raja, the main accused in the murder of Shaurya Chakra awardee Balwinder Singh Sandhu in Punjab, was arrested by the Tarn Taran Police on Tuesday. Two of his associates were also caught along with Gurwinder Baba. These include Sandeep Singh alias Kala and Gurpreet Singh alias Randhawa from Amritsar.
Police also recovered hand grenades, RDX-IED, two .30 bore pistols, magazines, 13 live cartridges, drugs worth Rs 36 lakh and a car from these three. The drugs recovered from them include 635 grams of heroin, 100 grams of opium, another intoxicant worth Rs 36.90 lakh.

According to Punjab Police DGP Gaurav Yadav, Gurvinder Singh alias Baba was declared a proclaimed offender by the NIA after the killing of Shaurya Chakra awardee comrade Balwinder Singh Sandhu, who lived in Tarn Taran. Gurvinder Baba played an important role in the murder of Balwinder Singh Sandhu. He had provided weapons to the shooters.
During police investigation, it was found that Gurvinder Baba is close to notorious gangsters Sukhpreet Singh alias Harry Chatha and Sukhmeetpal Singh alias Sukh Bikhariwal.

According to DGP Yadav, preliminary investigation has indicated that the arrested accused were planning to carry out a big blast on August 15. He was supposed to use the recovered explosives, arms and ammunition to spread terrorism in Punjab on 15 August. These people had ordered all this stuff from Pakistan.

Firozpur range IG Jaskaran Singh said that the Tarn Taran police had received credible inputs. After that, blockades were put up on the way to Khadoor Sahib. Gurwinder Baba and two of his associates Sandeep and Gurpreet Singh were arrested with a white car at this block. Two pistols, loaded magazines, 635 grams of heroin, 100 grams of opium and an intoxicant worth Rs 3.90 lakh were found in the car.
On the behest of the accused, RDX-IED, hand grenades and a huge amount of weapons have been recovered from Batala.

During interrogation, Gurvinder Baba told that he has hidden RDX-IED and hand grenade at a place under Batala Police District. When the police searched the place, a hand grenade, RDX-IED and narcotics worth Rs 33 lakh were found from there. At present the accused are being interrogated. In the coming days, a large network involved in smuggling of arms and drugs from across the border may be exposed.
