‘The Kerala Story’ Enters The 100 Crore Club, Adah Sharma Starrer Mints Rs 112.99 Crore

New Delhi: The makers of ‘The Kerala Story’ reported on Sunday that the movie had made Rs 112,.99 crore in the nine days after its premiere in India.

Sunshine Pictures, the film’s production company, reported in a press release that the movie made Rs 19.5 crore on Saturday, bringing its overall domestic earnings to Rs 112.99 crore, as reported by PTI.

On May 5, ‘The Kerala Story,’ a movie about conversion that has polarised political discourse in the nation and resulted in bans in some areas and tax-free status in others, was released.

The Hindi film, which is directed by Sudipto Sen and stars Adah Sharma in the lead role, was released on May 12 in 37 nations.

The Vipul Shah-produced film ‘The Kerala Story’ tells the story of Kerala women who were coerced into joining the Islamic State (IS) and being converted.

BJP-ruled areas like Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have granted the movie tax-free status, while multiplexes in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal have ceased showing it due to the law and order situation.

In response to a complaint from the ‘The Kerala Story’ producers claiming the film is not being screened in theatres in these two states, the Supreme Court on Friday requested responses from the West Bengal and Tamil Nadu governments.

Following ‘Pathaan’, which starred Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and John Abraham; Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor’s rom-com ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’; Ajay Devgn and Tabu’s ‘Bholaa’; and Salman Khan and Pooja Hegde’s ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan’, ‘The Kerala Story’ becomes the fifth Bollywood film to gross over Rs 100 cr worldwide in 2023.

Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani, and Sonia Balani play the main characters in ‘The Kerala Story’.
