Telangana postal circle releases booklet on UNESCO-recognised world heritage sites | Hyderabad News – Times of India

HYDERABAD: As many as 40 world heritage sites across the globe, recognised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), have now released postal stamps on 16 sites.
For the first time, the officials of Telangana postal circle came up with a unique booklet, containing 40 world heritage sites. On Tuesday, chief postmaster general, Telangana circle, S Rajendra Kumar, released it on the occasion of ‘National Tourism Day’ held at Dak Sadan in Hyderabad.
There are 40 world heritage sites, including 32 cultural sites, seven natural sites and one mixed-criteria site in India. The Telangana postal department has released stamps on some of these UNESCO world heritage sites in three series separately.
In the first series, the hill forts of Rajasthan include Amer Fort, Chittorgarh Fort, Gagron Fort, Jaisalmer Fort, Kumbhalgarh Fort and Ranthambore Fort. Natural sites include Manas wildlife sanctuary, Great Himalayan national park, Nanda Devi and Valley of Flowers national parks and Western Ghats.
In the second series, cultural sites include the historic city of Ahmedabad – Sarkhej Roza, churches & convents of Goa – Church Of Bom Jesus, group of monuments at Pattadakal, and in the third series, Khajuraho group of monuments, Javari Temple, Qutb Minar and its monuments.
Speaking on the occasion, chief PMG, S Rajendra Kumar said, “The purpose behind the release of the booklet is to encourage the identification, protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage around the world, considered to be of outstanding value to humanity. Out of 40 world heritage sites, we have released stamps on 16 sites and it is sure that this booklet is a good addition to philately products of Telangana circle.
This booklet will be available for sale at Rs 800 each from January 27, at Philatelic Bureau, Hyderabad GPO and also online through e-commerce website of Telangana postal circle – https://eshop.tsposts.in for the benefit of philatelists/collectors.
