Tapan Dutt accused in division bench challenging CBI probe into murder

A case has been filed by a division bench challenging the CBI probe into the murder of Trinamool leader Tapan Dutt. On Tuesday, an accused named Shasthi Gain filed the case. Last Friday, Justice Rajshekhar Mantha directed a CBI probe into the Tapan Dutt murder case.

Bali grassroots leader Tapan Dutta was killed on the night of May 8, 2011. CID started investigation. Although the initial chargesheet had the names of several grassroots leaders including Minister Arup Roy, the names of many of them were omitted in the second chargesheet. Tapan Dutt’s wife Pratima Dutt then approached the High Court seeking a CBI probe. After a long legal battle, Justice Rajshekhar Mantha finally complied with his demand and ordered a CBI probe.

Gain, one of the accused, filed a case in the bench of the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday challenging the verdict of the single bench. According to court sources, the hearing of the case may be held this week.
