On February 12, an 18-year-old student named Darshan Solanki allegedly took his own life at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. According to Solanki’s family, he had experienced discrimination due to his caste at IIT Bombay and they suspect foul play in his death. Originally from Ahmedabad, Solanki was studying B Tech at IIT Bombay in Mumbai.
The police arrived at the scene immediately after the news of the suicide and took Solanki to the hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival. The cause of Solanki’s suicide remains unknown, and the police are currently investigating the matter.
