The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) successfully test-fired the new generation ballistic missile Agni Prime. The missile was test-fired from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha. A Defense Ministry official said on Thursday that the test of the missile was completely successful. This missile can destroy multiple targets simultaneously. The range of this missile is up to 2000 km.

According to the ministry, this was the first pre-induction night launch after three successful development tests of the missile. Such a launch confirms the accuracy and reliability of the system.

Radar, telemetry and electro optical tracking systems took the data
The ministry said, this test was done on the night of 7 June. Range instrumentation such as radar, telemetry and electro-optical tracking systems were deployed at the terminal point at various locations, including two down-range vessels, to capture flight data. Senior officials of DRDO and Strategic Forces Command witnessed the test. Defense Minister, Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO and Armed Forces for this test.

Clear the way to join the Armed Forces
Dr. Sameer V Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defense Research and Development and Chairman, DRDO, appreciated the teams of DRDO laboratories and those involved in the test. Senior officials from DRDO and Strategic Forces Command witnessed the successful flight test. After the success of this test, the way to include this ballistic missile in the Armed Forces has become more clear.

War head can be mounted on the missile
Agni prime missile is the new generation missile of Agni series. The weight of this missile is 11000 kg. The 34.5 feet long missile can be fitted with one or multiple Independently Targetable Reentry Vehicle (MIRV) warheads.
