Students protesting against hijab ban left college: Karnataka college gave TC to one, NOC to the other

Many Muslim girl students protested against the ban on hijab in Karnataka. Recently, five Muslim girl students of Hampankatta University had sought TC from the college administration for taking admission in another college, out of which the demand of 2 girl students has been fulfilled. In this, a No Objection Certificate (NOC) has been given to one student and a Transfer Certificate (TC) has been given to the other.

In these, two girl students had a press meeting, in which questions were raised on the rules of wearing uniforms inside the university.

a student gave an apology letter
College principal Anasuya Rai told that a student who was holding a press conference has written an apology letter to the authority and is taking online classes. At the same time, a Muslim student of MSC, who hails from Kerala, has taken TC citing poor health.

Also told that the one who has been given NOC can take admission in any college through this, when they get admission then TC will also be given.

Special arrangement for girl students who do not follow dress code
Mangaluru University vice-chancellor PS Yadapadithaya had announced that if the girls did not want to follow the High Court’s direction, asking them to follow the dress code, then for those girl students to join universities and other colleges. Special arrangements will be made.

High Court dismissed the petition
In February, the Karnataka government had banned the hijab in schools and colleges, citing the violation of public order and equality, which was challenged in the High Court. Subsequently, in March, the Karnataka High Court dismissed petitions seeking wearing of the hijab inside class, saying that the hijab was not a necessary religious part of the Islamic faith.
