Start-up Drones Of Iit-g To Fly High On Republic Day | Guwahati News – Times of India

GUWAHATI: From lending assistance during harrowing times of cyclone Amphan to helping the authorities to chalk out plans to minimise erosion through technology in Asia’s biggest riverine island Majuli in upper Assam, IIT Guwahati start-up drones will fly high in the Republic Day event in north Guwahati on Wednesday.
Drones developed by IIT Guwahati start-up, Drones Tech Lab, will perform a drone show at the R-Day event in Kamrup, the first of its kind in the northeast, the institute said in a statement on Tuesday.
The drones developed in the lab have been successfully providing solutions in several domains — disaster management, agriculture, survey and mapping. These have been at the forefront, technologically and creatively, in promoting disaster management caused by Cyclone Amphan by offering drone technology to aid frontline workers.
Over the years, these drones have been notable for being instrumental in handling some main challenges in the eastern India. Majuli, which had an surface area coverage of 880 square km at the beginning of the 20th century has been reduced to 553 square km as of today due continuous erosion by the aggressive Brahmaputra river. For the Drones Tech Lab, out came an opportunity to develop a solution to monitor and analyse the rate and means of erosion so as to plan a sustainable solution to control it.
Director of IIT Guwahati, Prof. TG Sitharam, said the drone show at the R-Day event will help publicise this technology for the benefit of the masses. “Since the inauguration of the UAV Center at IIT Guwahati, there have been several projects where the help of drones has been sought for faster data collection, whether it is a land survey, river mapping, agriculture or healthcare and disaster management,” said Sitharam.
