Sri Lanka’s economic troubles are not abating. People’s migration continues. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has tried to reassure the country. According to Ranil, the situation in the country will improve in about one and a half years. Inflation will be around 6%. Ranil described India as a reliable and helpful friend in difficult times.

It is also believed that the country is passing through the worst phase since independence. Ranil said- I am sure that we can change these conditions of the economy. It will take about 18 months. The next year i.e. 2023 is going to be very difficult for us, but by 2024, the economy will be on track and will start gaining momentum.

Sri Lankan PM described India as best friend. Said- Sri Lanka is going through a serious economic crisis. India has helped us a lot in dealing with this. We welcome the entry of Adani Group into the country.

Biggest economic crisis after independence
In Sri Lanka, people are not able to get even everyday things or are getting manifold expensive. Foreign exchange reserves are almost exhausted, due to which they are not able to import even essential things. The biggest is the lack of fuel. There are several kilometer long lines on petrol and diesel. Protests are also taking place.

Security of petrol pump handed over to army
People are having clashes with the security forces every day because they are monitoring the petrol pump. Schools, colleges and hospitals are closed. The youth do not have employment. The tourism sector was also affected earlier due to Kovid and it is struggling due to the economy.

People upset due to inflation, unemployment
Protests continue against the government. People are suffering from inflation, unemployment and acute shortage of fuel. Thushan Perera, an auto rickshaw driver from Colombo, has not fed his three children full meals at both the times for almost five weeks.
