The gory, bloody, intense, and yet extremely grasping web series, Squid Game, a Korean survival drama, gained worldwide acclaim in 2021. It swiftly became one of Netflix’s most-watched shows at that time. Its popularity continued to soar, with notable YouTubers recreating the series and a video game in the works. Amidst rumors and anticipation, the confirmation of Squid Game Season 2 has stirred great excitement among fans. While an official release date is still pending, its filming has been ongoing since July 2023 and is expected to last at least ten months, with expectations of a late 2024 release, according to What’s on Netflix.

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, despite ongoing planning for Season 2 in November 2021, officially confirmed the sequel in June the following year. As reported by the Korea Times, he said “I’m in talks with Netflix over Season 2 as well as Season 3. We will come to a conclusion any time soon.”

Apart from this, about four months ago, Netflix also introduced us to the cast of Squid Game Season 2 through their YouTube channel.

The returning cast reportedly includes Lee Jung-Jae reprising his role as Seong Gi-Hun, along with familiar faces like Lee Byeong-Heon, Wi Ha-Joon, and Gong Yoo. Notably, Hwang Dong-hyuk expressed the intention to incorporate deceased characters through various means.

In addition to the returning cast, Season 2 also introduces new actors like Kang Ha-Neul, Yim Si-Wan, Park Sung-Hoon, and Yang Dong-Geun. A fresh lineup of eight cast members was announced on June 29, expanding the series’ ensemble, reports Deadline.

Squid Game Season 2’s plot centers around Seong Gi-Hun, now sporting a distinctive red hairstyle, as he seeks to dismantle the forces behind the titular Squid Game. The narrative will explore the consequences of Gi-Hun’s decision to remain in Korea instead of joining his daughter in the US. While specific details remain scarce, actor Lee Jung-Jae has hinted at Seong Gi-Hun’s return to the arena, while talking to People.

As the production progresses, more insights into the mysterious games and their orchestrators are expected to surface. While the exact trajectory of Season 2 remains uncertain, Lee Jung-Jae has reportedly conveyed that the scale and direction of the upcoming season are yet to be fully revealed, keeping fans eagerly anticipating the continuation of the Squid Game saga.
