New Delhi: BJP leader and Bigg Boss 14 contestant Sonali Phogat passed away on Monday due to a heart attack in Goa. The 41-year-old reportedly complained of uneasiness after which she was taken to hospital. Sonali had gone to Goa along with some of her staff members for a two-day shoot. Her sudden demise has left her fans, family and friends shocked.
Hours after Sonali’s death, her sister hinted at foul play and alleged that Sonali’s food was poisoned. While speaking to the media, she said that Sonali had called home and complained about feeling uneasy after eating her food. Sonali suspected something had been mixed in her food. Her sister said, Sonali had said: “mere pe kuch saazish ho rahi hai…”
However, Goa Director General of Police Jaspal Singh has ruled out any foul play in the case. He told PTI that Phogat complained of uneasiness while she was at ‘Curlies’ restaurant in Anjuna from where she was taken to the hospital.
She was brought to St Anthony Hospital at Anjuna in North Goa district after she complained of uneasiness.
“There are no external injury marks on the body,” Singh said, adding that the postmortem report will reveal the exact cause of the death.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Mapusa) Jivba Dalvi said she was brought dead to the hospital.
“Prime facie, the cause of death is established as heart attack but further medical examination is on,” he said.
The body was sent to the state-run Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) at Bambolim for postmortem.
Forensic experts at the GMCH will conduct the postmortem, Singh said.
Sonali Phogat’s last rites will be performed on August 24, 2022.
